Peter Firestein is a strategic advisor to senior corporate managements. He helps them build market value and sustainability by strengthening support among investors and social stakeholders. He is originator of The Open Perception Study™, a market intelligence tool that reveals how investors make decisions to buy or sell shares of an individual company. He helps companies identify risk, leverage hidden employee assets, and realize their full potential as leaders. Firestein has described original techniques for creating these results in

Firestein is known as an expert in reputation, investor relations, corporate social responsibility, and in helping managements get the most out of internal resources. He has consulted to companies in many vital industries across North and South America, Europe, and Asia. They include global integrated oil and oil services companies, multi-national telecommunications groups, and major players in hard- and software technology, finance, infrastructure development, electric power generation, mining, petrochemicals, food & beverage, retailing, and industrial manufacturing. He has written and commented extensively on the pharmaceutical industry.

Firestein conducts Socratic Dialogues for executive groups, helping them define their reputation risks and incorporate a systematic search for risk into their corporate practices. Through the The Open Perception Study™, he forecasts issues that will drive investor thinking in the future. In addition to investors, it can map the attitudes of broad social constituencies as well as teams within organizations.

Firestein is a former Managing Director at Thomson Financial (now Thomson Reuters). He served as the exclusive financial communications advisor to the Government of Brazil in the privatization and NYSE listing of its national telecommunications monopoly, Telebrás. Not just a financial transaction, this singular event required a transformation in public attitudes about the place of private enterprise in society.

He is a frequent guest commentator on Bloomberg Television and Radio and has contributed perspective for the BBC World Service, National Public Radio, WOR Radio New York, and more than a dozen other radio and TV outlets. He has spoken before the Conference Board, the 92nd St. Y Tribeca, the United Nations University, the National Investor Relations Institute, the Canadian Council for the Americas, and to financial audiences in about half a dozen countries. He has addressed business groups in Latin America on behalf of the U.S. State Department. He has served as keynote speaker for such organizations as the Australasian Investor Relations Society in Sydney and the International Association of Business Communicators at the University of Southern California.

Firestein publishes The Corporate Reputation Monthly, an e-newsletter, and a Corporate Reputation Blog. He is a faculty member of the Conference Board Governance Academy and has been named among the Top 100 Thought Leaders in Trustworthy Business Behavior by Trust Across America. He is a graduate of Stanford University in English Literature and holds an MA in the same subject. He lives in New York with his wife and three daughters.
